Badass Watson by Kellatrix Badass Watson by Kellatrix
I know! It's kind of crappy. I'll make a better one once my computer decides to let me animate stuff.

Now, listen here, punks. In the books, Watson wasn't just a stupid second-banana to Holmes. No, siree. He wasn't as quick, observant and deductive as Holmes was, but he was NOT an idiot. And I dislike movies and TV shows that make him out to be nothing more than Holmes' dumbass friend. Because he wasn't. He was pretty sharp. And I like that the new movie depicted him as such.

Fulfilling a request from my own dear Watson, *Hazumi-yuki. Righto, eh, chap?

FINALLY SOMEONE UNDERSTANDS!!! In a bunch of adaptations of Sherlock, John always ends up getting the back seat. And I'm always like "WHAT?! NONONONO BACK UP!!!" Because Watson is actually a really b.a character-but where is that awesomeness? Squished by the spotlight of Sherlock. I personally think someone should make a movie or mini tv-series of Watson before he met Sherlock. I would love that.

Considering he was a medic in the military and thus mostly likely more than capable in handling firearms and is possibly capable of self defense and quick thinking I'd say Watson always was and always will be a badass.

I always thought Watson was as clever as Holmes because Watson had logic and common sense. I mean, I'm pretty sure Holmes wouldn't have solved half of his cases if Watson wasn't there to give him a bit of logic, if that makes sense. ._.

Haha I also support badass Watson. I've been reading the Sherlock Holmes stories, and have found that the portly, elderly Watson is a completely inaccurate description, and Jude Law Watson is much more accurate.

He was also a man of action in the books, something that was often forgotten in some of the past adaptations. So I liked that in the new movie. :D

In the books, whenever there was a chance of danger, Holmes asked Watson to come with him, bring his revolver and all. Watson was pretty much the one there to tilt the balance if things went bad. X3

1954 TV show was very faithful to the books, and even had Watson go on a (fake) crazed rampage that took 7 policemen to hold him down.

Being the story-teller who mostly describes what is going on around him, Watson naturally has been the more difficult one to depict in a movie or TV adaptation. So forget about those adaptations. Anyone who has read the books knows that Watson is not stupid or slow. It's just that "Holmes" is "too" sharp. That's all.

As for the new movie, there were many things that I didn't like about it since I'm a fan of the books and the canon, but yes, I actually liked and enjoyed the fact that finally an adaptation did some justice to Watson and depicted some of the true but mostly-ignored sides of him. :)

I support badass watson too!
I've read a couple of the books and seen the recent movie, and I don't know why people think he needs to be a fat old guy. I mean, he was in a WAR godammit! He's gotta be skinny at least!
Anyway, it's kinda obvious I agree with you.

lol I never pictured Watson as an idiot, just more of a cautious doctor type, middle aged and stuff.

I definitely prefer this version ^.^

I don't think I had really seen anything about Shelock Holmes before the new movie ( unless The Great Mouse Detective counts ) and I was surprised that Watson was presented the way he was. I had assumed he wasn't quite as intelligent as Holmes ( not sure why though ). I adored the way Holmes would bait Watson into trying to "figure out" the clues and whatnot. It was adorable and showed how Watson is just as smart as him. :D

I wasn't sure how I felt about the movie overall ( part of it might be because it was a bit late and I was getting tired of being out ), but the more I think about the movie, the more I like it.
