At least in my opinion. It doesn't matter if the person wearing the costume is a girl, or a guy, or skinny, or fat, or black or white or young or old or anything like that. If the costume itself is really authentic and good, then it really shouldn't matter.

No, you shouldn't cosplay Rip if you look like Major and Major if you look like Rip... (Hellsing) You will look ridiculous. You should look similar to the character, unless you're a kid trying to be cute in a costume or something...
